Barn Wood Shelves

I've been s.l.o.w.l.y working on my kitchen redo. It's only taken about a year and a half! *face palm* I'm getting there though! All we've really got left to do is trim work, and install a new countertop, sink and backsplash. Piece of cake. :/

What we did get accomplished, however, is installing some barn wood shelves on a big blank wall above the stove.

We bought some unfinished brackets from Home Depot that I stained and painted and used some barn wood boards I got from my mom for the shelves!

They prove to be the perfect spot for my rapidly growing ironstone collection!

I just love the creamy white of the ironstone against the dark barn wood!!

I don't mind that the barn wood was not quite as wide as the bracket, but my husband the perfectionist wants to add another small piece of barn wood to make it flush to the end.

 Stained, painted and distressed brackets

One project down, only a few more to go until my grand kitchen reveal!!

Valentine's Decor

I have an amazing Ramsign enamel house number sign giveaway going on now!! Come enter HERE

So, last week I worked on getting some Valentine's decor made for my booth. I took it all in on Friday and by Sunday most of it was sold! I better get busy making some more!!

Here's what I put together.

I decorated some vintage trowels as picture holders. These are big sellers in my booth!

 "Key to my Heart" trowel

I mod podged some script scrapbook paper to the back of this one. I usually leave them plain metal like the key to my heart one, but I thought the addition of the paper would be a pretty touch for V-day.

Next I glittered up some chip board letters and added magnets to hold up the pictures!

I love this little peat pot "tree" with burlap hearts!

And what's Valentine's day without a little Jane Austen? I cut out a heart from one of my favorite parts in Pride and Prejudice - where Darcy proposes to Elizabeth and tells her he loves her - most ardently!

Here's the cute bead board heart I made last year with crepe paper rosettes.

Another trowel with more glittered letter magnets.

After seeing these letters, I was in LOVE and had to make some too!! For the L I used a piece of a door, the O a grapevine wreath, the V a broken piece from a folding ruler, and the E scrap pieces of wood stained with vinegar and steel wool.

Have you made anything for Valentine's Day yet?

Winter Mantle

I took all of our Christmas decorations down last weekend. The house looked so bare that I immediately got to work on putting together some decor for a winter mantle.

I filled old oil cans with winter picks!

See that long mirror back behind it all? I found that about a month ago at an estate sale for a great price! I don't currently have a place for it just yet so here it sits for now.

I'm thinking this wire tree will just have to stay up all year. I'm just too in love with it to put it away! Can you just picture it - hearts for Valentine's day, eggs for Easter........ ahhhh so many possibilities!!! :)

I seriously have a snowflake addiction!

Do you decorate for winter or go straight from Christmas to Valentine's day or thinking about spring?

Crazy for Benches and Stools!

Before I show my benches and stools, I wanted to share some very exciting news with you!! I was one of the winners at Whisperwood Cottage's most recent Cottages & Bunglalows Magazine Scouting Party!!! I just received my issue in the mail and it was a dream come true seeing one of my projects in print! I am beyond excited and so grateful!! Ahhhhh!!!!!

Can you believe it?!?!? If you would like to see more of the project go HERE.

Ok. Back to the stools and benches! :)

Over the last few months I've been coming across quite a few stools. I have a hard time passing them up when I see them because they are just so cute and there are so many ways you can redo them!

As for benches, I found three of them two years ago and have finally finished redoing the last one.

The benches originally looked like this:

The first one turned out like this:

The second one like this:

And the third now looks like this:

I used the same concept as my Union Jack pillow to recover the bench with drop cloth and lace.

I was so excited to get started on the rest of my stools that I forgot to take before pictures, but here are the afters of them all.

This was a simple unfinished pine stool that I stained in Dark Walnut, painted, distressed and stenciled the grey star on top!

I didn't have to do anything to this stool and I love how rustic is it!

I have been snapping up yardsticks and rulers for a year anytime I see them at estate sales to collect enough to start making some projects with them. I am in love with how this stool turned out!!

Which one is your favorite?
