Industrial Chic Big Boy Room Game Plan

Now that our kitchen is finally done, I'd like to turn my attention to my son's room! Anderson will be turning four in October and it's time for him to have a big boy room! This is what his nursery first looked like:

The only changes that have been made so far are replacing the crib with an actual bed and we sold the glider. Everything else looks pretty much the same.

I thought I would share my game plan for his room here to give me some motivation to get it done soon because you'll be expecting a reveal, right?!? ;)

Anyways, here's my plan:

I'm definitely going with an industrial chic vibe!

Anderson's bed is a Jenny Lind bed kind of like this.
The style of his is different, but the finish is the same.

I bought this Belgian linen bedding from Restoration Hardware

And I have been buying things as I see them:

Like this rolling tool box for his nightstand

And this army footlocker to use as a toy box

The only area where I can't make up my mind is choosing a paint color! I plan to keep all the trim and beadboard white and the bed will remain unpainted to bring in some wood tones.

These are the colors I'm contemplating:

(This perfect mix of taupe, gray and cream is the one I'm leaning toward the most)

But I was also thinking maybe a light gray

The last choice is called Whispering Wheat by Glidden. It's the one on the left.
It's actually much lighter than shown below.

Feel free to cast your votes for a paint color. What do you think would look best with white, wood, linen and metal?

I do have some elements purchased and planned that I will keep secret until the reveal! ;) I hope to get started this week on Anderson's room! In the meantime, here are some pictures I have pinned for inspiration!!

  1. Decorating is always so much fun - except when you can't quite decide which direction to go! it looks like you're going to have a great time! Good luck! My paint vote is for the one on the left - I would be concerned with all the industrial aspects it might come off looking too industrial and cold, that paint has a little more warmth to it :)

  4. This room is going to be awesome! A color I just discovered might be perfect for the room. it's a Martha Stewart color called Sandpiper. I just painted most of a house that color and it was amazing...neutral and somewhere between beige and gray, but light and airy! I know it's not a choice you provided, but it's too good of a color not to share.

  6. I love the industrial vintage vibe for boys too - it grows easily and doesn't feel "themey". Found you via "Not Just A Housewife" and am your newest follower! I hope you will come over and follow too - and see the direction I'm headed with my boys shared vintage room.

  7. I LOVE the vintage industrial look also -- you can see plenty of it in my new kitchen -- and it's just perfect for a boy's room. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new room looks like!

  8. I believe I will love this bedroom. I like the wheat - it is warm and the gray seems cold.

  9. It's going to look great. I love that look. I think you should go with a color that's just a bit warmer than grey.

  12. Melissa,

Using the army footlocker as a toy box is a great idea! I love the Homestead Resort Parlor Taupe color that you shared...it looks like such a great color combination like you mentioned. :-) Thanks for sharing at the Inspiration Gallery!
