Vintage Picnic Baskets

Before I show you my latest project I want to tell you that today is my One Year Blogiversary!!!!!!!!! Thank you all for being apart of my first year blogging! I've loved sharing my projects with you and I appreciate every single one of your comments and your friendship! Ok, now onto the rest of my post. 

Last month when I first started shopping for things to fill my booth, I came across three vintage picnic baskets in one day! I bought them all! One sold within a week, the other two just sat there. So, to help them stand out from the other baskets I saw in several other vendor's booths, I decided to give them a makeover.

Here are the baskets in their original state. I watered down some Antique White latex paint and whitewashed both baskets inside and out.



Then, for one basket I found an image from The Graphics Fairy and transferred it onto the lid using mod podge. I found this transfer method from Susan at Homeroad. It works great!!!

Find an image and print it out in reverse. Cut out around your transfer and apply a thick coat of mod podge directly on your image. 

Place it face down on your surface and smooth out all the bubbles. Then let it sit over night to dry. 

Once your project has dried overnight, saturate the paper with water. I used a spray bottle. 

Gently rub your finger over the paper until it peels away and you can see the ink transfer clearly. 

You're left with an awesome image!!! See the area around the image that looks sanded? I had to sand off my first transfer attempt because I didn't use enough mod podge. When I started to rub the paper, some of the letters peeled completely off. 

The other basket I just did a simple stencil.
 
(I did touch up the areas on both baskets where I sanded after I took these pictures) 

 Don't they look so pretty!?! I love the whitewashed look!


I wish I had the space in my house to keep this entire setup! I think the whites and metal look so pretty together!

Vecco

Have any of you heard of Vecco? I never have until a few days ago, but I think it's a company I will love!!! Citra Solv Image Transfer Tutorial

A couple weeks ago I shared some transferred image embroidery hoop art that I've been creating using Citra Solv. I had a great response from people asking for a tutorial so I put one together for you! Enjoy!

Find the right sized embroidery hoop you want to work with and cut out a piece of very light-weight fabric. I used white muslin. I have tried thicker fabric like drop cloth with poor results, so you need something very thin to achieve a nice transfer.

Next, make a copy of the image you want to use on a TONER copier - like a xerox. I have also heard that laser printer copies work with Citra Solv too, but I have only tried toner copies. If your image has words make sure you print out a reverse copy. You can transfer images with color too. 

Then of course you will need Citra Solv. I purchased mine on Amazon.com.

Flip your image face down on the center of your fabric. Tape or pin in place. 

Brush over the back of your image until you can see the picture clearly. 



Take the back of a spoon and rub, rub, rub, all over the image for a few minutes. Use a lot of pressure. I go over the image 3 or 4 times rubbing in different directions to make sure I didn't miss a spot. 

Remove the paper and you're left with your transferred image. (This is the first time I've used white fabric and I have to say I'm not entirely impressed. I have much better luck with cream colored muslin. I get a much more even transfer.) Iron your fabric to evaporate any Citra Solv and place in your hoop.  

Once you have tightened the screw at the top of your hoop. Go around a couple times pulling the fabric until it's stretched nice and tight in the hoop. 

Trim your excess fabric. Leave enough to fold down over the back of the hoop. 

Use hot glue to secure the extra fabric to the hoop to hold everything in place. 


Such a quick, easy project with so many possibilities!! They get kind of addicting! Have fun! Let me know how yours turn out!

Pretty Paper Flowers


About a month ago I came across this post of Laurel's from Chipping With Charm of little book page flowers she made with Fiskers paper punches. I thought they were the cutest things ever so I went out and bought the punches to make my own using sheet music. Go to Chipping with Charm to see Laurel's tutorial.

One of the paper punches that I bought is a little different than Laurel's so here's how mine turned out.


 

I loved them so much that I even decorated a tiny grapevine wreath with some.



 I think you'll be seeing these flowers a lot around here! :)

Embroidery Hoop Art

I'm loving all the embroidery hoop art I've been seeing all over blogland, Pinterest, and Etsy! I'm loving it so much that I've been making some to sell in my booth. Here's a few that I've created.

 I've made a few like this. I used drop cloth for the hoop fabric and made the rosette from white muslin. I have also made one with a rosette made with white burlap. 

I've been experimenting with transferring images using Citra Solv and graphics found from The Graphics Fairy onto a cream colored muslin. Love these! Let me know if you'd like me to put together a tutorial on how to transfer.



Fun right!?! There are so many ways you can dress up an embroidery hoop. I find them all the time for super cheap at thrift stores. I can't wait to make more!

I Won!
