Cabinet Reveal

The day has finally arrived!! You get to see my cabinet I redid a few weeks ago! I got this cabinet from work for FREE!!! It had been sitting down in the basement for years and I got to take it home. Our living room was starting to become overrun with our 20 month old son's toys. I wanted something that would contain everything so it would look like a living room again instead of a playroom. :) Here's what our living room looked like before.

After hours of scraping paint and sanding.

I painted it with 4 coats total. (2 coats Kilz primer and 2 coats in Antique White). Then my husband removed the glass from the doors. I loved the glass, but I didn't want the risk of it breaking while my son was playing.

Here's the cabinet now!!!!!!!!  (Please ignore the missing baseboard. Our house is one big unfinished project).

 

I just love what it has done with the space! Everything looks so much more organized. 

The burlap curtains were so simple. My mom helped me sew a loop at both ends, slipped a dowel rod through and attached them to the cabinet door with brackets.

I love how much storage we have!!

Our son was thrilled too!

Lamp Redo

This weekend I worked on redoing 2 lamps that sit on end tables in my living room. I bought them about 6 years ago. My tastes have greatly changed since then, so I decided they needed a makeover! Here's what they looked like before:
 

I know, scary right? I didn't like the beads that hung down like the lamp on the right, so I always kept them tucked under.

I forgot to take a picture, but I liked the texture and color of the shade, so I just removed the beads. Then I spray painted the bases in Heirloom White.

After several coats of paint and some cute burlap rosettes, here's what they look like now:

So much better!!! I don't have a tutorial for the rosettes. But, I just looked around online at different tutorials and kind of played around until I was happy with how they looked. I cut different lengths of burlap to have different size rosettes. I cut them about an inch wide, folded them in half, then ironed them so they would stay folded. Then I twisted them, rolled them, and hot glued in places to help them keep their shape. I hot glued them to the lamp shade.

Vignette and a Sneak Peek

Do you remember my spring vignette and the shelf I use as my "mantle"? Well, I made a few changes over the weekend that I'm so excited to show you.....part of it anyway!! :)

I transformed a cabinet over the weekend and placed it under the mirror in the living room. The top of the cabinet has now become my new "mantle". Are you ready to see my new vignette? I got the sewing machine drawer and letter U printer blocks at an antique store in Bell Buckle, Tennessee 2 weeks ago while we were on vacation.

My husband and I both work at a church and he does a lot of side jobs for members of the congregation. He got this little metal file cabinet for free for helping one member clean out her basement!!!!!

It makes a great place to store odd and end craft supplies. 

 I absolutely LOVE mercury glass!
