Grand Kitchen Reveal!

The day has finally arrived my friends! After nearly two years my kitchen redo is complete and ready to be shared!!! I'm just going to get right to it since you've waited long enough!

For those of you who missed my sneak peek post last week here are the before pictures:

 And the long-awaited after:

The flooring did not get changed and while I'm not crazy about it, it's still in nice enough condition that it's not a priority right now.

We used bead board wallpaper and small trim on the flat faced cabinet doors.

You can find out more about the pallet cabinet HERE and the door shelves HERE

The window trim and baseboards are the Cottage Collection from Home Depot. We are slowly replacing all the trim in our house with this. I love it!

You can find the second pallet cabinet HERE and the barn wood shelves HERE

We used chair rail and actual bead board for the backsplash.

 Grain scoop utensil holder!

We made our own countertop with 2 - 2 x 10 boards and 1 - 2 x 8 board. The cracks were filled with wood filler, stained and sealed with polycrylic. We got the inspiration for the countertop from this post HERE

We added brackets under the counter overhang for a pretty finishing touch.

So there you have it!! What do you think?!?

Kitchen Details:
Wall color: Parchment White by Glidden
Cabinet color: Pure white Behr
Bead board wallpaper: Amazon.com
All trim, baseboard, chair rail and bead board purchased from Home Depot

Any other questions just let me know!!!

  45. Love your kitchen. We bought a house with a 70's kitchen, also. I repainted the cabinets last year (before I got pg) and now want to get going again and do the countertop. How is the DIY wooden counter holding up? I had thought of making one from some of our left over wood flooring, but the idea of the 2x10s amd 2x8 is easier and thick without faking the thickness (something I was trying to figure out if we used our wood flooring). Thanks!!

    1. My educated guess would be standard 2x10 and 2x8 untreated pine. If you want to know how I know I build houses for a living. If you did this in your house I would love to see how it came out. :-)

  76. Hello, I'm visiting from The Shabby Creek Cottage. I do not believe I've seen your blog before but let me tell you, I am VERY impressed with your lovely kitchen redo. It is so pretty and bright and fresh that I don't even mind the faux-brick flooring; in fact, it interjects a bit of old-fashioned whimsy, rather like a 1950's style linoleum - you probably aren't old enough to remember that kind of flooring :) I love the various collections you've showcased here and there too - the rolling pins, I got such a kick out of them. How well I remember one of my grandmas making delicious pie crusts (and the best-tasting insides ever known to mankind) with an old rolling pin - with worn off red-painted handles, LOL! So many memories. While I have seen flat-panel cabinets trimmed out in other kitchens, a look I love, by the way, I think yours is the first I've seen beadboard wallpaper used inside the trim "panels" as an additional, and I just love the look. I am absolutely amazed how much storage you have packed into your "decorative accents." Just altogether excellent planning. And yeah, I know personally how long it takes to pull a project together sometimes. Life gets in the way :) An excellent job, I will be checking in on your blog from now on to see what you're up to.

  78. Excellent work! I actually had to scroll back up to see if the floors were the same. They look a lot better against the white cabinets, so don't let them bug you too much. :-)

  79. Absolutely a beautiful kitchen makeover. I love the use of beadboard wall paper and trim. That cabinet tucked next to your stove is so adorable. Where did you get it?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Wonderful job! The white brought out details I didn't notice at first. For example, the scallop detail over the sink. I know you had fun collecting and great anticipation to finish the kitchen so you could display. The back splash idea is great. The new "homemade" counter top actually compliments the floor (like mine) you had to keep. Just love all the other little architectural details you added. Amazing and so enJOYed this post.

  81. oh my gosh, what a truly vintage and collected kitchen! I love the way you used all those items as décor and grouped them together. amazing!

  82. Nice work! I finally got over from a linky party at Redoux to see the great changes. I know how hard it is to paint cabinets and your trim really makes them fine. Keep Creating! Cindy @ sunsetcoasting.blogspot.com

My oven currently doesn't have a hood - it was low and we kept bumping our heads on it, it was ugly and it didn't vent to the outside anyway. I'd like to keep it off and remove the cabinet above it. Do the shelves above your stove get greasy without the hood?

  121. Just seeing your post now but love what you did to your kitchen! Really want to do the beadboard theme in my kitchen too. We have the same type of flat cabinets as yours. Can you give me the particulars on how you did your cabinets and drawers? Thank you so much!!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. It's 3 years out since you posted this so it may be a different trend, but I would have put dark pulls on the cabinets and also if I could I would saw off the detail above the sink because the wavy wood looks dated to me. With that being said, I applaud you on how awesome you did!! I see houses with old cabinets like these and I see there is hope to update them without going to Lowe's to buy stock cabinets or simply slapping a coat of paint on them. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Yourgent kitchen is an amazing inspiration. My very own kitchen looks very similar to your before pictures. I'm curious to know how the cabinets are holding up 3 years later. I found some beadboard wallpaper and was surprised as how soft it is. Having teenagers and a toddler in the house, I just wasn't sure how durable it would be.

  126. Hi Melissa, I love your kitchen. I'm getting ready to do a beadboard wallpaper and trim detail on my boring hollow core interior doors and was wondering how the beadboard wallpaper held up on your kitchen cabinets. I have old seventies cabinets and would like to apply this to mine too if you still recommend. Thanks !

  127. We're did you find the table I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I'm in the process of doing wood counters, did you have any problem getting the wood filler in the crevices to take the stain? I've used wood filler, I'm sanding, and now I'm worried about it staining the same color?

  129. I love your white cabinets with the walnut counter top. I think your floor matches very nicely with the walnut counter to pull it all together. Personally I would not change the floor.

My kitchen cabinets have external hinges and I want white cupboards but I'm not sure how all the antique "H" hinges on white will look. I was considering white hinges with black knobs or black hinges and black knobs. I never thought about black hinges with white knobs. Nice idea.

Nice idea.

  133. Hi. I hope you still get comments on posts so old! I currently have cabinets like you started with. Do you know what the material likely is? I'd like to redo mine very similar to yours, except painted a gray rather than white. So, I have a few questions. First, can the bead board wallpaper you used be painted? Also, how did you attach the wall paper to the cabinets?
    Thank you in advance!!

  134. I am in the process of redoing my kitchen cabinets with the beadboard wall paper. I have already had to replace two panels of the paper because it got torn. How have you found this product to be on a daily basis? I'm hoping that once I have them all painted, it will be all right.
