For those of you who missed my sneak peek post last week here are the before pictures:
And the long-awaited after:
The flooring did not get changed and while I'm not crazy about it, it's still in nice enough condition that it's not a priority right now.
We used bead board wallpaper and small trim on the flat faced cabinet doors.
The window trim and baseboards are the Cottage Collection from Home Depot. We are slowly replacing all the trim in our house with this. I love it!
We used chair rail and actual bead board for the backsplash.
Grain scoop utensil holder!
We made our own countertop with 2 - 2 x 10 boards and 1 - 2 x 8 board. The cracks were filled with wood filler, stained and sealed with polycrylic. We got the inspiration for the countertop from this post HERE.
We added brackets under the counter overhang for a pretty finishing touch.
So there you have it!! What do you think?!?
Kitchen Details:
Wall color: Parchment White by Glidden
Cabinet color: Pure white Behr
Bead board wallpaper: Amazon.com
All trim, baseboard, chair rail and bead board purchased from Home Depot
Any other questions just let me know!!!

Hello Melissa,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on one CHARMING kitchen makeover...it looks OUTSTANDING!!!! Love how you did you cabinet doors and those DIY counter tops are super neat! Thanks for sharing at my party.
Blessings,
Linda
Love your kitchen. We bought a house with a 70's kitchen, also. I repainted the cabinets last year (before I got pg) and now want to get going again and do the countertop. How is the DIY wooden counter holding up? I had thought of making one from some of our left over wood flooring, but the idea of the 2x10s amd 2x8 is easier and thick without faking the thickness (something I was trying to figure out if we used our wood flooring). Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L makeover! It's fresh, with great vintage charm as well. Love it.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what paint can do! Your kitchen looks great now! Thanks so much for linking up to Frugal Crafty Home!

ReplyDeleteI think ya'll did a pretty amazing job! It's just amazing what some paint can do for a space! The beadboard wallpaper really added great dimension to the doors! The countertops really set off the cabinets as well! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome kitchen makeover! Love love love your counter-tops! If you don't mind me asking, what type of wood did you use for them?
ReplyDeleteSelene @ Restoration Beauty
My educated guess would be standard 2x10 and 2x8 untreated pine. If you want to know how I know I build houses for a living. If you did this in your house I would love to see how it came out. :-)
DeleteI think it is absolutely wonderful! :)
ReplyDeletewow! I love it. All your collections are so cool. Plus, I really like your little hutch. Cute!! What a huge difference from the before.

Wow! Amazing difference while still keeping a lot of the original elements in tact! Where did you get (or perhaps, did you make?) the white-wash cabinets that are between the stove and fridge and the one with all the shelves above it? I LOVE them!
ReplyDeleteWow! You must be heaven in this new kitchen! We are moving next year so I have stopped making any new renovations or changes. You are one lucky cook!

ReplyDeleteJenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof
Hello, I'm visiting from The Shabby Creek Cottage. I do not believe I've seen your blog before but let me tell you, I am VERY impressed with your lovely kitchen redo. It is so pretty and bright and fresh that I don't even mind the faux-brick flooring; in fact, it interjects a bit of old-fashioned whimsy, rather like a 1950's style linoleum - you probably aren't old enough to remember that kind of flooring :) I love the various collections you've showcased here and there too - the rolling pins, I got such a kick out of them. How well I remember one of my grandmas making delicious pie crusts (and the best-tasting insides ever known to mankind) with an old rolling pin - with worn off red-painted handles, LOL! So many memories. While I have seen flat-panel cabinets trimmed out in other kitchens, a look I love, by the way, I think yours is the first I've seen beadboard wallpaper used inside the trim "panels" as an additional, and I just love the look. I am absolutely amazed how much storage you have packed into your "decorative accents." Just altogether excellent planning. And yeah, I know personally how long it takes to pull a project together sometimes. Life gets in the way :) An excellent job, I will be checking in on your blog from now on to see what you're up to.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is lovely! And beadboard wallpaper is briliiant. I'd love if you'd come share at Inspire Us Thursday at Organized 31. http://organized31.blogspot.com/2013/06/inspire-us-thursday-link-party-3.html
ReplyDeleteExcellent work! I actually had to scroll back up to see if the floors were the same. They look a lot better against the white cabinets, so don't let them bug you too much. :-)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely a beautiful kitchen makeover. I love the use of beadboard wall paper and trim. That cabinet tucked next to your stove is so adorable. Where did you get it?
ReplyDeleteWonderful job! The white brought out details I didn't notice at first. For example, the scallop detail over the sink. I know you had fun collecting and great anticipation to finish the kitchen so you could display. The back splash idea is great. The new "homemade" counter top actually compliments the floor (like mine) you had to keep. Just love all the other little architectural details you added. Amazing and so enJOYed this post.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, what a truly vintage and collected kitchen! I love the way you used all those items as décor and grouped them together. amazing!
ReplyDeleteNice work! I finally got over from a linky party at Redoux to see the great changes. I know how hard it is to paint cabinets and your trim really makes them fine. Keep Creating! Cindy @ sunsetcoasting.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWhat do I think? I think I'm astounded! At first I really thought you went out and bought all new cabinets. It was the darling scalloped trim that made me look twice. I LOVE the kitchen. You deserve a big pat on the back! I'm pinning this for future reference!
ReplyDeletebeautiful! Such a transformation...may I ask where you purchased the brackets for your open shelving? thanks,
ReplyDeleteStephanie
Your counter is bleeping awesome! I'm so in love! Your collections really come together in your new kitchen... I know you're gonna love it for months to come!

Wow I just LOVE everything!! So many treasures:)
ReplyDeleteI notice you don't have a hood over your stove. Just curious, because I want to redo our kitchen which was remuddled before we bought it. My oven currently doesn't have a hood - it was low and we kept bumping our heads on it, it was ugly and it didn't vent to the outside anyway. I'd like to keep it off and remove the cabinet above it. Do the shelves above your stove get greasy without the hood?
ReplyDeleteWould you share more detailed info on how you did the wallpaper beadboard and molding on the cabinet doors?
ReplyDeleteI just found you through "Timewashed'. Your kitchen reno is amazing ! The layout was perfect already wasn't it and what you have done to transform your kitchen is simply beautiful. Now I am going to have a read through your lovely blog to see what else you have been creating !
ReplyDeletePlease pop over to my blog FRENCH BLUE AND PEACHY PINK , I would love you to visit me too. Sending blessings and a big hello from Australia xo
Finally Remember how I found you, I saw your gorgeous kitchen on Pinterest!!! i've wanted to do this to my kitchen for a while now, but my husband wants to move and doesn't think painting our out dated cabinets will look good. :( here's to hoping I can do it in my next house!! lol!!

ReplyDeleteFABULOUS!!!! Love it all!!! My style all the way! Found you over at Gail's My Repurposed Life!
ReplyDeleteOh Melissa, I almost missed your amazing kitchen reveal! You did a fabulous and awesome job my friend, it looks gorgeous and most certainly looks like ANOTHER KITCHEN!!! Your vintage collection of kitchen ware is lovely and unique and it goes perfect in this new transformation. I'm so happy for you sweetie, nothing compares to kitchen remodels; we did ours almost 3 years ago and I still love it and appreciate it so much every time I'm there, so I know how you feel! Enjoy your weekend in the gorgeous kitchen reveal! Blessings.

Beautiful! I love the paint color choices, the wood countertops and your decor. Looks so clean and fresh.
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen collectibles, your new wood countertop, and the moulding you adding to your painted cabinets. Good job!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen makeover is wonderful! Love the counters and the white cabinets. The little brackets are perfect for the overhand and the beadboard backsplash is a great detail. You have some beautiful collections and they are all displayed so nicely.
ReplyDeleteI want to do this to my kitchen! I need some step by step directions!
ReplyDeleteVery nice diy! Where did you purchase the sink?
ReplyDeleteI love what you have done. We are redoing ours and you have given me some ideas to use in ours.
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous! How have your counter tops held up?
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful makeover!! I was wondering how the wallpaper bead board has held up since the renovation. It looks great!!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your makeover - just found it on Pinterest. Am wondering how that wallpaper is holding up and how hard is it to apply? It looks so REAL... even the closeup looks like real bead board. does it look real in person too?
ReplyDeleteWow! I love this an the wood cabinet tops is Brilliant, Hubbby don't know it yet but we are doing this. Beautiful job you did.
ReplyDeleteLove the countertops! How and what did you do to install them on the cabinet base?
ReplyDeleteJust seeing your post now but love what you did to your kitchen! Really want to do the beadboard theme in my kitchen too. We have the same type of flat cabinets as yours. Can you give me the particulars on how you did your cabinets and drawers? Thank you so much!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's 3 years out since you posted this so it may be a different trend, but I would have put dark pulls on the cabinets and also if I could I would saw off the detail above the sink because the wavy wood looks dated to me. With that being said, I applaud you on how awesome you did!! I see houses with old cabinets like these and I see there is hope to update them without going to Lowe's to buy stock cabinets or simply slapping a coat of paint on them. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYourgent kitchen is an amazing inspiration. My very own kitchen looks very similar to your before pictures. I'm curious to know how the cabinets are holding up 3 years later. I found some beadboard wallpaper and was surprised as how soft it is. Having teenagers and a toddler in the house, I just wasn't sure how durable it would be.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cute. I love all the personal touches. Where did you get the brackets that are holding up the shelves?
ReplyDeleteWhat color stain did you use on the countertop
ReplyDeleteHi Brooke! I used minwax early american on the countertop! :)
DeleteHi Melissa, I love your kitchen. I'm getting ready to do a beadboard wallpaper and trim detail on my boring hollow core interior doors and was wondering how the beadboard wallpaper held up on your kitchen cabinets. I have old seventies cabinets and would like to apply this to mine too if you still recommend. Thanks !
ReplyDeleteWe're did you find the table I love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the process of doing wood counters, did you have any problem getting the wood filler in the crevices to take the stain? I've used wood filler, I'm sanding, and now I'm worried about it staining the same color?
ReplyDeleteI love your white cabinets with the walnut counter top. I think your floor matches very nicely with the walnut counter to pull it all together. Personally I would not change the floor.
ReplyDeleteMy kitchen cabinets have external hinges and I want white cupboards but I'm not sure how all the antique "H" hinges on white will look. I was considering white hinges with black knobs or black hinges and black knobs. I never thought about black hinges with white knobs. Nice idea.

Hi. I hope you still get comments on posts so old! I currently have cabinets like you started with. Do you know what the material likely is? I'd like to redo mine very similar to yours, except painted a gray rather than white. So, I have a few questions. First, can the bead board wallpaper you used be painted? Also, how did you attach the wall paper to the cabinets?
ReplyDeleteThank you in advance!!
I am in the process of redoing my kitchen cabinets with the beadboard wall paper. I have already had to replace two panels of the paper because it got torn. How have you found this product to be on a daily basis? I'm hoping that once I have them all painted, it will be all right.
