Studio Progress

Hey there!! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! The weather here in Michigan has been beautiful! I've loved being able to work outside again. But, in typical Michigan fashion, they are calling for 1-3 inches of snow tonight! Crazy!!!

I worked on my craft room redo a little bit over the weekend....and that reminds me....I have decided I am now going to call it my studio instead of my craft room. I really dislike the word craft for many reasons. The word makes me feel like I'm back in Kindergarten gluing popsicle sticks together. I think what I do, what all of us bloggers (and nonbloggers) do, is much more than crafting! We are artistic, creative, inspiring, and talented. Crafting is just not a strong enough word to describe what we do, therefore, I refuse to use it. Besides, studio sounds way more professional anyway. :)

Ok, enough about that! Let me show you the dresser I redid to use as storage in the room.

The nursery at the church I work at underwent a makeover a couple years ago. There was a dresser that was no longer needed, so I said I would take it. Like everything else in my house, it sat in my garage forever until I figured out what to do with it.

This is not a true before picture. I got a little ahead of myself and removed the drawer pulls, sanded it a bit, and filled some holes, but it'll do.

I just received some paint samples from General Finishes and used Lamp Black for this piece. I absolutely LOVE this paint!! The coverage is great and I love the subtle sheen that's left once it dries. I can't wait to work with it again. I've got a few more colors to try!

I chose some vintage looking glass drawer pulls from Hobby Lobby and moved it into place on the stamped triangle wall I completed last weekend. (Please ignore the missing baseboards!)

(Sorry about the picture quality. This room gets very little natural light and, of course, it was rainy and overcast when I needed to take pictures).

This dresser provides me with some much needed storage and I love it!!! I can't wait for you to see what else I have in store for this room!! I'll be plugging away at it for the next several weeks, so check back for more updates!

  2. Nicely done, Melissa! It looks like it will provide you with plenty of storage for your studio. I'd love to call my space a studio {I just call it a craft/sewing room} but it is so small.

  3. Just like Kathy I call my space the sewing/craft room. Studio covers it and sounds much more professional. I think you have converted me. I have the same bookends you have on the newly painted dresser, only mine are in the guest room/ library. Just another duel purpose room. Great makeover! I love the drawer pulls.
