Shelf Makeover

Happy Monday everyone!! This weekend I helped my parents clean out some areas of one of their rental houses. The only thing I like better than junk is FREE junk!!! Wanna see all the great stuff I found!?!

A huge frame, bucket and old doors

This was used to blow glass. I love the industrial look to it.

I'll being using this bucket to put our Christmas tree in this year!!!
Fun, right! Ok, onto the shelf makeover part of this post. A few years ago, I drew up some plans for a shelf, mailed them to my dad in Tennessee. He built them and drove all the way to Michigan to deliver them and help us put them up. Love him! We were in major need of storage space and we had the perfect wall to fill with floor to ceiling shelves.

Here they are before the makeover:

They've been bugging me for awhile. They look so cluttered and messy.

And here they are now!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about the blurry pics. Something's up with my camera. We snagged a few of those 7up crates on Saturday

This fabulously chippy box was another find from Saturday

Just a reminder! Make sure you stop over and visit Kirstin at Burlap & Buttons. She is having her very first giveaway! It ends Friday and it's one you don't want to miss!

  9. Much more cohesive and boy do I understand the labor involved because I dusted my book shelves of the same size today. Mine are not as well put together as yours, my books must be where I can see the titles I am afraid.

  10. way to go! I thought you had put a book cover on every single book at first and thought - wow TIME consuming! And upon closer inspection you just put the spines to the back of the wall - genius! :)

  18. Your bookshelf turned out great, I was just featured on Savvy Southern Style for my bookcase updo & i did the same thing with my books. It's funny what a difference turning your books around can make, I've been enjoying this look for some time....much easier than covering or stripping their spines. Great job. Take Care, Carrie

  28. I hopped on over from Serenity Now. I love your story about your dad. My dad is also a craftsman and your story reminded me of when I was young and I helped him build a shelving unit for my bedroom. Sweet memories. Your shelf redesign looks terrific. I especially love how the white is more soothing to the eye. Great job!

  37. I must be missing something about this bookcase makeover project. If you turn the books the way you have, how is anybody going to know where what book is located or name of a book without pulling each and every book out till something strikes their fancy. I don't understand this new look!
